There are a few ways you can identify issues with your vehicle’s tires at home to ensure there are not problems down the road. Use a gauge to ensure tires are not under- or over-inflated, checking against the manufacturer-recommended PSI found on the driver’s side doorjamb. Insert a penny with Lincoln’s head upside down into the tread. If you can see all of his head, this indicates it is time for replacement. Look for cracks in the sidewall or dry rotting, bubbles, bulges, cuts, or sharp objects like nails or screws embedded in the rubber. Uneven wear, like more wear on the inside or outside edge, may indicate the need for a wheel alignment.

Choose a few proactive driving habits to maximize the life of your Jeep or Ram model’s tires. These are usually designed to drive no more than 50 miles at speeds below 50 MPH to reach a Service Department, like our location. If you have driven on a temporary spare for more than this intended distance, its structural integrity is likely compromised, and it should not be reused for a trip down Highway 37. Even if unused, check your spare for dry rot and replace it every 6 to 10 years.
